Have you ever heard of a show called 'Mom's Diary - My Ugly Duckling'. This is kind of a new show airing on SBS. It was a pilot program aired on 20/7/2016 before being picked up as a fixed program due to high rating. The first episode was aired on 26/8/2016.
SHOW CONCEPT
The concept of this show is how well do the moms know about their sons' lifestyle. The panel in studio that consist of three hosts and four main casts' moms will watch the video recordings of their sons daily activities. Through this, the moms will discover many new sides of their sons (sometimes very shocking things 😊😊).
There are three hosts for this show, Shin Dong Yup, Han Hye Jin and Seo Jang Hoon. However, Han Hye Jin had decided to left the show to accompany her husband, footballer Ki Sung Yong who plays for Swansea City A.F.C. Her replacement has yet to be decided by SBS.
FIXED CASTS
KIM GUN MO & LEE SUN MI
Kim Gun Mo is a famous South Korean singer-songwriter and composer. He is a person with an eccentric personality and often do crazy things irrelevant to his age (49 years old). He is also a soju maniac. His mum, Lee Sun Mi is a woman with strong personality. She often butthead with the hosts, especially Seo Jang Hoon and Shin Dong Yup when they try to expose his son real lifestyle. 😁😁
PARK SOO HONG & JI IN SOOK
Park Soo Hong is a South Korean tv host and radio deejay. He is famous for hosting many weddings. At the age of 46, he is a club lover and love to watch television programs. He has his own friends circle, whom often accompany him to places like clubs, public bathroom etc. He seems to undergo midlife age crisis, showing interest in trying many new thing like tattooing, waxing and hair bleaching. Ji In Sook is the oldest among the mums in this program. She has a very cute personality.
HEO JI WOONG & KIM HYUN JOO
Heo Ji Woong is a famous author and film critic. He is known to have a chronic mysophobic. His personality often drive the panel crazy and they find it hard to understand why he needs to clean something so extremely. He never cook in his house because he do not like the smells. So, he often eat unhealthy food thus suffer from difficulty to gain muscles. His mum, Kim Hyun Joo is the youngest among the mums. She is a shy person.
TONY AN & LEE OK JIN
Tony An is famous for being a former member of first generation idol group H.O.T. He is living with two of his friends, Kim Jae Duk (idol group Sechkies member) and a lawyer. His house is kind of not very organise and unhygienic. His mum, Lee Ok Jin is known to be an avid fan of Kim Gun Mo. She even confess to regret for not being 20 years younger so that she can be with Gun Mo. 😀😀
Despite being a new show that had been air for only about 5 months, this show had won many awards during the last 2016 SAF SBS Entertainment Awards. The awards include the Screenwriter Award, the Producers' Award and the Program of the Year Award. Two of the hosts, Seo Jang Hoon and Shin Dong Yup also won the Excellence Award for Variety and the Grand Award respectively. This is a prove that the show has a lot of potential to be a great program. I hope it will get more love and attention from Korean variety shows lovers.
