A robot comes from the future to protect its owner, basically that is the premise of this web-drama. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of Doraemon (you know the Japanese cartoon, the blue robot cat coming from future to take care of Nobita). I always watched that cartoon when I was a kid. Sometimes, I pretended to have a magic pocket that have futuristic gadgets just like Doraemon. As for KDI-109, I wonder if he has any interesting ability. Maybe his body is equip with many gadgets? Or perhaps he can do multiple tasks?
109 STRANGE THINGS WEB-DRAMA EPISODE 1 RECAP
Shin Ki Won is in an interview
session. Although she is still a university student, the interviewers are still
looking for candidates with work experience. Plus, being a liberal arts degree
student is making it harder for her to land a job. She fails the interview. After
she left, the interviewers are complaining for being wasting their time as it
was clear that she is not even qualify to be one of the candidate.
Later, Shin Ki Won meet her
fellow liberal arts degree friend who is having a hard time to finish his novel.
He says although he has the passion like other students, unfortunately cannot
do anything because he doesn’t have the specs. They are so sure that they will
stuck writing novels there. Suddenly, a girl come running towards them holding
a job vacancy ads from Koden Co, a robotic company. The company is specifically looking for a
liberal arts major. The students find it hard to believe as why a robotic
company looking for a liberal arts major. Although confused, everyone become
competitive to be the first to grab the opportunity.
Shin Ki Won meet her senior and
give her report. While looking through the report, he asks her questions and
amaze at how knowledgeable she is. Like he said, she is better that google. After
that, she walks home while carrying bags of groceries. She narrates:
“My name is Shin
Ki Won. I’m a 3th year philosophy student at Dae Woong University.I can count
133 job applications that I never heard back fromalong with 29 interviews with
the same results.”
A couple and their baby wait in
front of a house with tons of luggage. The woman seems irritated because the
house owner is not home yet. Later, Shin Ki Won arrives. They are her big sister’s
family, they come to stay with her because their house was seized. Her sister is
still mad at her for being late. Shin Ki Won cannot believe at how shameless
they are. They promise to stay only for this winter. As soon as they get
inside, her childish sister Shin Ki Yeon and her jobless husband asks her for
various foods.
Shin Ki Won prepares dinner for everyone.
Her brother in law lectures her about better buys the groceries during sales
because she can get more thus everyone can have more food. Her sister agrees,
Shin Ki Won cannot believe what she heard. Later, she nags to her younger
sister to not skip school. She also asks her younger brother if he has fill his
job questionnaire. He insists that he will not go to university but she keeps
nagging. He complains to her to stop messing up since she is not their mom. She
says she does not want to be like this too but has no choice since their mom is
not here.
Suddenly, the lights goes out and
there is an exploding sound from outside of their house. Everyone is shock and
scared. They see something outside but don’t know what it is. Everyone goes out
to investigate further only to find a strange man standing there surrounded by smokes
and fire. He scans everyone’s face and identifies their identity before
introducing himself as KDI-109. He claims that he comes from future, the year
2050. The younger sister is excited because he is handsome.
Three people come out of a
strange car, each holding some strange equipment. Looks like the equipment are
for detecting and finding purposes. They are trying to detect something that is
5km away but fail as they lost the signal. The boss tells his subordinates to keep
searching everywhere.
Inside the house, Shin Ki Won and
her siblings gather at the living room together with KDI-109. The younger sister
feels bad that a handsome guy like that is a robot. Shin Ki Won tries to make a
phone call to report this incident to the police but her family members
disagree. Suddenly, KDI-109 begin his
proper introduction starting with his serial number: 14431009. He is a humanoid
robot, a type-03 prototype that was manufactured in March 2050.
He looks at
Shin Ki Won and once again identify her identity before he begins telling her
information such as her name, birthdate and gender. He tells that he comes from
the future solely to protect her as to everyone surprise. However, he cannot
tell the reason as it relate to the future. Shin Ki Won still does not believe in
him. He vows that as of right now (Feb 2nd, 11:08pm) he has only one
mission which is to protect his owner, Shin Ki Won. He holds her wrist, then suddenly
a watch like looking gadget appears on her wrist. END
IN MY OPINION
The drama progress quite fast, maybe due to the limited airing time. So far, I think it does attract me to keep watching. A lot of questions keep popping in my head as I watch the drama. First of all, of course the question is why KDI-109 comes to protect Shin Ki Won. Is her life in danger? How will he protect her? In case he fail, then does it mean he will not exist? Second question, who are those three people. I am sure they also come from the future, Right now, it looks like they are the protagonists but I wonder if that is the real case. Maybe there is a deception or plot twist. My theory is these three are after KDI-109 to bring him back to the future. I think he is a broken prototype or something. Well, we have to keep watching to unveil the truth.
