'Tomorrow With You' Episode 1 Recap

Fantasy-romance drama is kind of popular these days. This time there is a little bit of mystery element to it. TvN latest drama, Tomorrow with You allows us to fantasize on the convenience that a person can have with the ability to time travel. Not to be mentioned that it is as easy as taking a subway train ^^. However, will it be a gift or a disaster if a person knows his/her future? Can someone future change if his/her present is being altered?

TOMORROW WITH YOU EPISODE 1 RECAP

The drama starts with a scene where Im Yo Hwan beats Alpha Craft in an e-sports game competition. Yoo So Joon (I will refer him as SJ onwards) proud to witness the game on tv while preparing to head out. He wanders on the street, it turns out that today is Dec 2018 so everyone is in Christmas mode. SJ wonders what gift to buy for Se Young’s birthday. He then heads to the subway station. The subway is moving, SJ looks around him and suddenly everything surround him changes. Now, June 2016. Why is he not surprise? SJ narrates:

‘I am a time traveller. I travel to the future on a subway. You may have many questions about your future. But, I decline to answer. I have no interest in other people life.’

At a wedding photoshoot, a photographer have difficulty to take a picture because everyone seems awkward with each other. The bride mutters to her friends to feel honor for this chance to be photograph by a famous photograph. (We can already tell that the bride is a jerk lol).

SJ arrives at a restaurant and meet his friends Ki-Dong and Se-Young. They are mad because he leave without telling them. He brags about witnessing IYH match but his friend refuse to know the result. (So his friends know about him being a time-traveller.) He gives the gift that he bought to Se Young but excuse himself because he have an important thing to do. His phone rings. It is a reminder about Song Ma Rin, car crash 4:14pm.

Back at the wedding, the bridesmaids are chatting about how shameless the bride is, whom they hated for 15 years, for asking them to be bridesmaids. They are more confuse with their friend, Song Ma Rin (I will refer her as SMR onwards) for agreeing to come. SMR approach the photographer and claim to be her fan. She tries to be close but the photographer is being so cold towards her. The photographer notices the portfolio in SMR’s hand. SMR wants to be her assistant and give her portfolio but the photographer refuse to take it. Instead, she ask is SMR the child actress, Bap Soon. She is being sarcastic by saying a famous person than her trying to be her assistant. SMR praises her for recognising since nobody else notice that. Suddenly, the bride comes and calling SMR as Bap Soon. The bride says SMR shall be grateful to her husband for giving this opportunity to meet the photographer. The photographer leave after saying that she is not accepting any assistant. The bride is mad at SMR for using this time to snatch a job. SMR chases after the photographer and asks her to look at her portfolio whenever she has time, even when in the bathroom. At last, the photographer takes it.

SJ narrates about SMR. She was a famous child actress for her role as Bap Soon. He is watching SMR throughout the wedding photoshoot and hears passer by recognising SMR as Bap Soon. He is determine to change her fate today because his life might depends on SMR. (I wonder what does he mean by that). SJ follows SMR into a convenient store. She leaves right away after noticing SJ, who she claims as someone that has been stalking her for a while. Five minutes before accident, SJ grabs her arm and wants to talk with her but SMR refuses. Desperate, SJ claims that he is interested in her and wants to become close. SJ tries hard to stall the time since it approaching 4:14pm but SMR is trying to cross the road. While crossing the road, she does not notice a minivan is coming and fortunately SJ pulls her arm in time. Instead of thanking him, SMR just walks away after saying that he is weird. SJ phone beeping and suddenly there is a car screeching noise. SMR is laying on the road but luckily she just passed out.

SJ accompanies SMR at the hospital while browsing the internet on SMR information. He finds out SMR has peculiar love for alcohol. She awakes and thinks she was hit a car but SJ calms her. Later, her mother come searching for her Bap Soon at the hospital. They argue about her mom lying habit about her daughter to hide her embarrassment because she is not famous anymore. SJ write in his journal about his first meeting with SMR and his fist time involved in someone life. He wonders why he will die on the same date and time as this weird woman. (So this is why he says his life depends on MR, but how??). So, he saved her just because it has something to do with his own future.

SMR is photographing for online shopping site when she receives a call from the bride friend, Gun Sook. She wants SMR to come and carry her shopping luggage. She offers to have her husband make good impression to the photographer for SMR. SMR refuses because she does not want to go in through her friend’s help.

But soon after, MR is following Gun Sook at the shopping mall while her friend keeps on bragging about her rich husband being a high-rank director at a real estate investment company. She says the photographer made a lot of fortune thanks to her husband and that is why she is trying hard to be on good term with her husband. She nags SMR to just forget her dream and to get married, she even offers to introduce SMR to her husband’s secretary. SMR loses her temper and urges Gun Sook to shop quickly.

Gun Sook husband, Kim Yong Jin (onwards I will refer him as KYJ) arrives at his workplace with his secretary. They refuse to share the lift ride with anyone until the Chairman enter the lift. The Chairman is SJ!! SJ asks them do they want to be in the same lift with him. He is joking and says he is not that childish to not share a ride with other people. (Haha..what a blow). SJ congratulates KYJ on his marriage and asks many things like is this his second or third marriage,as well as the age gaps between him and the bride.

During a presentation, KYJ is persuading the investors to trust in his information and make real estate investment in Jangho. SJ who is also there is not even paying attention. He disagrees with KYJ and suggests a mountain area near Jangho will be more profitable based on his information. SJ argues that his information is always better thanK YJ’s, so just believe in him like always. KYJ seems very curious on where SJ gets his information. (Well, we do know where ^^). Ki Dong asks SJ to go easy on KYJ and to come out with a better explanations next time. SJ says he cannot says he knows it from the future. If he alter even a little on a person’s life, the future could be ruined. But recently he did get involved in someone life and can’t stop thinking about it.

SMR is cleaning her house when she receive a call from Sinbi Studio that she is accepted. She heads over thinking that she is accepted as studio assistant. But, she is shock to find out that she is accepted to enter the academy, not to be an assistant. She meet the photographer and asks about the confusion. The photographer says she needs to attend classes based on her current level. Honestly, the photographer is suspicious with SMR’s intention to become a photographer. It seems to her that SMR trying to be in the industry not because of her passion for photography but because she fails to become an actress. SMR says she had misunderstood because the reason is because she loves that pictures tells more than what eyes can see. The photographer still not believing her and asks SMR not to try get a job through a friend if she still has some pride.

SMR takes a subway and goes home. She remembers this is the place where she was reborn seven years ago. She got in an argument with someone that took a picture of her in the subway. She followed that person out the subway to urge him to delete the picture and suddenly the subway explodes. So, miraculously she still alive today because of the incident. It make her wonder if she is destiny for a better future. Suddenly, SJ appears in the subway and he notices SMR. He walks over and talks to her. He follows her around and tries hard to get closer to her. He tries to get her attention by offering to buy her foods but finally manage after mentioning alcohol. (How can he forget that she loves alcohol).

He asks many personal questions and SMR is suspicious on why he wants to know. Later, she gets drunk…very drunk that she starts talking nonsense and doing crazy things. She keeps drinking and SJ keeps listening with a stress face until she starts talking about her concerns on how people always talking and mocking her life. SJ says she is overreacting because people actually have no concern on other people’s lives as they are already busy with their own lives. Since life is short, SMR shall not be so attached to the past. Apparently she is too drunk, so SJ accompanies her safely home.

In the taxi, SJ remembers one future incident that he witness before. He managed to travel to 25^th March 2019 but he stumbled into an accident area. He was shocked to see his future self being carried on a stretcher and also another woman. (That woman is SMR). Someone grabbed his arm and told him to go to present day as fast as possible because the future might change if he stays there when his future self might die. He still couldn’t believe that he dies today. His ahjussi friend said on 25^th March 2019, 9:15 pm, SJ will die so they need to hurry and went back to the present. SJ understood why he never managed to travel beyond that date and this was his first successful attempt. He couldn’t believe that he will die so soon. His friend suggested he look for the woman who was in the accident and died together with him in the emergency room. Perhaps that woman might hold the key to save SJ life.

The next day, SMR looks at her miserable self in the mirror and feels embarrass about what happens last night. She hates herself for remembering everything and all the crazy pictures in her phone are proofs of what happen. She goes out and trying to calm herself by saying it is not like she will meet SJ again. SJ is actually watching her from his car together with his ahjussi friend and wonder if this strange woman really hold the key to his life. He approaches her by pretending to coincidently walk by there. He also apologises for anything he might done last night because he was too drunk to remember. SJ keeps saying without realising they had become close now and lets meet again by chance. He hands over an umbrella to MR because she needs it. SMR says it is not going to rain but SJ claims there is a chance it might rain and left.

SMR is working on her online shopping photoshoot when it suddenly rain. SJ finishes writing his journal and rushes to go out to the future. He arrives to the future, three months later to be exact. He goes to his home and immediately shock to see the interior. There are his wedding pictures hanging on the walls. He hears SMR’s voice welcoming him home. She says him coming home early making it obvious that they are newlywed. SJ shock to hear that they are newlywed. END.

IN MY OPINION

Honestly, I am not a fan of time travelling thingy because I felt like any unfavourable outcome can be repeatedly change by going back and forth between present and future until desirable outcome is achieved. So, I am afraid that there will be any scene in the drama where this might happens. Maybe it is because I am a logical person that I hate this type of thing ^^. Normally, I prefer crime, thriller, mystery and medical dramas but this time I take a chance with Tomorrow with You.

For Yoo So Joon, the mystery is why he and Song Ma Rin will be in the car accident together and also die together at the same place and time in the future. However, I think that is not a surprise to us viewers because we already knows that they will be husband and wife based on the released trailers. In my opinion, one of the mystery is whether So Joon ability will be discovered. It is because as we can see Kim Yong Jin looks very determine to find out about the source of his boss information. But, honestly I will feel the same way as he did if someone gave me that kind of explanation..it is very unconvincing. If his secret is unveil, then how will it affect his future? The biggest mystery to be uncovered is whether their fate will be change if any alteration is made in the present day. I am actually also curious about Yoo So Joon friends as how do they know about his ability. Not to forget about that time-travelling ahjussi, he seems kind of weird to be honest like he has some sort of secret that he keeps from So Joon. First impression, I am still looking forward on how this drama will progress and what conflicts will happens.
